History of the Indonesia Flag

The flag of Indonesia comes from the flag of the Majapahit Empire, which was founded in the 13th century. The flag was first publicized and celebrated on 17 August 1945 at Indonesian Independence Day celebrations. Since then, no changes have been made to the design of the flag.

The flag of Indonesia was adopted on 17 August 1945. The first Indonesian flag was seen by the Japanese occupation forces on the day of the country’s independence. However, until December 27, 1949, the Dutch colonialists did not accept Indonesia’s independence. In 1922, the Indonesian flag was used by activists seeking independence from the Dutch colony. In 1928, it was reintroduced by nationalists to represent the Indonesian independence campaign on the island of Java. The Indonesian flag is based on a symbol believed to be used by the Majapahit Empire in the late 13th century. The national flag of Indonesia is called Saka Merah Putih Sang.
