About Romania: Maps, Geography, Facts

Thanks to its natural, historical beauties Romania welcomes millions of tourists every year and grows ever more in terms of tourism. Bucharest is the most populous city and capital of the country. The official language is Romanian. German and Hungarian are spoken languages among the people. The Romanian currency is the currency.

It is located in Central Europe. Ukraine in the north and northeast, Moldova in the north, Hungary in the northwest, Serbia in the south, and Bulgaria in the south. In the east, there is a coast to the Black Sea.

Where is Romania?

Geography

The surface area of Romania is approximately 237,500 kilometers. It is located on the Black Sea coast in Southeast Europe. About two-thirds of Romania is mountainous and hilly, while the remaining three are highland and flatland. It forms the backbone of the Carpathian Mountain country. Drawing a wide curvature to the southeast, it stretches about 97 square kilometers and then returns to the west of the country where it takes the Transylvania Alps.

Governance

Romania, for the first time, adopted the Soviet development model. However, it became friendly with the western countries. By doing so, it managed to maintain his autonomy, which it had gained very difficultly. Romania was also influenced by the glasnost movement that began with Gorbachev in the USSR and encompassed all of Eastern Europe. To prevent this, the President of State Nicola Ceausescu hardened pressure and violence.

Thus the socialist regime in Romania ended. A National Liberation Front Council was established. Ion Iliescu was brought temporarily to the Presidency of the Council. In the free elections held on April 20, 1990, headed by Iliescu, took the majority of the votes and took over the administration. Romania thus moved into the parliamentary system and started to implement the free market economy.

Climate

A typical continental climate dominates in the country. The summer months are arid and hot, and the winters are hard and snowy. Autumn season is long, spring is short. While the average temperature is -3 degrees in January, it rises to 23 degrees in June.

Religion

80% of the population is Orthodox, 10% is Catholic. There are also some Muslims, Jews, Calvinists, and Lutherans.

Industry and Tourism

80% of the country’s economy is based on agriculture and 8% on the industry. 90% of the country’s land is cultivated. However, only about 40% of the national income of Romania is covered by agriculture. The country is one of the world’s leading cereal producer states. The most important agricultural products are corn, barley, wheat, sugarcane, grape, and fruit. In addition, oats, rye, vegetables, sunflower, soybean, tobacco, cotton, hemp, and linen are important products. Sheep, cattle and poultry breeding are common. Fishing is an important source of income. Romania is the world’s fourth-largest machinery and metalworking country. More tractors, locomotives, electrical tools, and road drilling equipment essential industrial products. The industry is mainly based on iron and steel. There is also chemical industry, construction materials, cement, timber, and wood industry, food industry, textile and fabric weaving, clothing and footwear manufacturing, rubber goods, and petroleum products industry.

Romania’s natural and historical beauties attract millions of tourists every year and these tourists make a great contribution to the economy of the country. Tourism is the most dynamic and fast-growing sector in the country. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, Romania is the 4th fastest growing country in tourism.
