Spain is bordered by Morocco, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Andorra, and France. The official language is Spanish. Other languages with regional prevalence are Basque, Aranca, Catalan, and Galician. The country also has ethnic groups such as Romanians, Moroccans, and Ecuador. There is no mention in the Spanish national anthem. On the other hand, the third most spoken language in the world is Spanish.
Spain, with an area of 505,182 square kilometers, is the second largest country of the European Union and Western Europe after France. It is located on the Iberian Peninsula on the south-western edge of Europe. Apart from this peninsula, the Balear Islands in the Mediterranean, the cities of Ceuta and Melilla in the north of Africa, and the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean are also within the Spanish national borders. Spain is a neighbor to Gibraltar in the west, again in the Iberian Peninsula, in the north, in France, and in the south in the United Kingdom.
In the north, the Pyréné Mountains (the highest point Picode Aneto 3,404 meters) leave France. A large part of the country is covered by mountains in the direction of the east after Switzerland is the second highest country of Europe. Suddenly the rising shoreline forms a port entrance with few plains. The rivers, mountains, inhabits the springs deeply. Outside of the humid northern kings, 2/3 of the population is concentrated in the coastal plains, since the interior is semi-arid.
Spain's monarchy is a parliamentary democratic form of government. General Franco's 36-year dictatorship ended in death on November 20, 1975, and two days later, Juan Carlos I of Bourbon dynasty came under Spanish rule. The Constitution, which determined the new political order of the country following a free election by all political parties, was adopted by the majority of the people in 1978 and entered into force with the approval of the King.
The king's authority is largely symbolic. The main authority belongs to the Government appointed by the King. However, the King has the power to terminate the legislation and to appeal to the people on the terms specified in the Constitution.
Climate is dry. The summers are warm, the winters are cold. There are three different climate regions in the country. In Northwest Spain, summers are mild, winters are soft. Mediterranean climate mixed with the land climate dominates the interior.
Most of Spain's people are Christian Catholic. With a small number of Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, this number constitutes a percentage of the population.
Industry and Tourism
The Spanish economy is the 5th largest economy in the world and 13th in the European Union, according to GDP. Spain has a modern economy based on the service sector. It is a competitive and innovative international center for the young and well-educated population with prices. Efforts are being made for the future growth of the economy and much attention is paid to research and development activities in this area.
Like other Western European countries, Spain's economy has entered into a transformation process after the Second World War, in which the importance of the services sector has increased, and this sector has become the dominant sector of the economy, while the importance of the agricultural sector has declined. While the agricultural sector constituted only 2.5% of GDP, the share of the services sector increased to 75%. Retailing, tourism, banking, and telecommunication sectors are the most important elements of economic activity. On the other hand, the industrial sector, which accounts for 17% of GDP, maintains its importance in the economy.
Spain is one of the world's leading tourism destinations. Every year, Spain hosts millions of tourists thanks to its owners, culture, and splendid cities.
From the paintings on the walls of Altamira caves to the works of Picasso, the Spanish art enriched the opposition carried by the Spanish land among many influences and accidents. In 1875, colored bison paintings made to the "ceiling" of the Altamira caves unearthed to the north of the country remained from the Upper Choreography period. These products are evidence of a mastery of Jesus, fifteen thousand years old. The megalithic tomb monuments rising up along the coast (Cueva de Menga dolmen) are from the period of Cilalitas.
There are about 5 million licensed athletes in Spain. There have been great successes in the sport in recent years. The most popular sports soccer throughout the country.
